Project Description
In this project, our team was tasked with designing a comprehensive story world for a tabletop role-playing game using the FATE Accelerated system. The objective was to create a detailed and immersive Game World-story Book that provided the foundation for multiple adventures, demonstrating a deep understanding of narrative design principles. Our story world needed to encompass various fictional genres and incorporate extensive world-building research, ensuring the geography, ecology, history, culture, and society described supported performative play and emergent narrative possibilities.
The final Game World-story Book included sections on the game system and GM notes, detailed player characters, and a sample adventure. This project served as the basis for our individual Interactive Fiction Design Project in a subsequent assessment, where we each created an interactive fiction project set in the world we designed.
My Role in the Project
Initial Brainstorming and Research: My role in the development of the RPG gamebook began with the initial brainstorming sessions. I collaborated with my team to generate ideas and outline the core elements of our story world. This phase involved researching various fictional genres and world-building techniques to ensure our game world would be rich and engaging.
World Development: Following the brainstorming and research phase, I focused on the development of the world. I was responsible for writing and designing key aspects of the game world, including the locations, currency, lore, and other critical elements that would bring our story world to life. This involved creating detailed descriptions and visual aids to ensure that every part of our world was coherent and immersive.
Content Creation: In addition to my primary responsibilities, I contributed to the overall content creation for the Game World Book. This included collaborating with team members to integrate various elements seamlessly and ensure that our final submission was highly detailed and polished, providing a robust foundation for player performance and emergent narratives.
By combining initial brainstorming, thorough research, and detailed world development, my role in this project was crucial to the creation of a rich and engaging RPG gamebook. This experience not only honed my skills in narrative design and world-building but also highlighted the importance of collaboration and creativity in producing a coherent and immersive story world.
